Special Needs Program
What is our Special Needs Program?
Our blanket kit production process has many simple, repetitive tasks, making it an awesome opportunity for us to impact another deserving population: young adults and adults with physical and cognitive impairments. We host official community partners that provide volunteer work crews of differently-abled adults and their job coaches to aid us in the production of blanket kits and the quality control of blankets going to hospitals.
Current Community Partners
These community partners provide job opportunities and community involvement to adults with cognitive disabilities as well as adults who have suffered a head trauma. Our partners typically send job coaches along with a work crew of adults with cognitive impairments to our warehouse for community work exposure in a fun environment. These amazing workers from our community partners help us fold and roll all of our blanket kits that eventually go out to events. Their first day with us, they made 6 blanket kits. Now, their record is 112! They are amazing people and truly integral to our production process.
The Impact
For many of our differently-abled adults that volunteer with us, this is an opportunity to use their talents to give back. One of our adults from the STEP program, Chris, began folding and rolling blankets and has now graduated to learn how to use our heat press as well as how to cut fleece. Growth and achievements like Chris’s make us proud to work with our community partners every week.
